Metal is defined as a solid material that is typically hard, shiny, malleable, fusible, and ductile, with good electrical and thermal conductivity.
Our GP Metals has been our silent foundation for many years and it’s time we give them some recognition for their amazing work.
Currently, Metals is sending six students to the state competition, SkillsUSA. The students going to state are: Jared Hood, Jordan Epple, Alyssa Pio, Joey Milloy, Kyle Nettifee, and Michael Burris.
You may not have realized, but our Grants Pass metals classes have been working on huge projects for GPHS: projects like a barbeque trailer for the Booster Club (courtesy of Jared Hood and Jordan Epple), a weight training sign, and Christmas tree stands. There should be about twelvstand by next Christmas.
Metals are also going to create newsstands for The Scroll to help distribute papers. Members of The Scroll are very excited to obtain these stands.
There are three metal fabrications classes offered here at GPHS. Sand casting, along with foundering, form casting, CNC plasma cutting, and recently, 3D printing (for molds) are being used in these classes to make wrenches, little eagles, and more.
Not only have GPHS Metals been busy making new products, they have also repainted their tool room and redesigned the main door. Tool shelves hold organized bolts and washers.
Mr. Leair hopes to soon put all the drills on one wall to help accessibility and productivity for students taking Metals at GPHS.
Great things are happening in Metals with more to come.Let’s support our GPHS Metals as they help pave another path to success for GPHS.
