Third, fourth, and fifth grade students from each of Grants Pass District 7’s elementary schools have been reading, practicing, and participating in their school Battle of the Books competitions. Battle of the Books encourages and recognizes students who enjoy reading. It also helps to broaden reading interests, increase reading comprehension, and promote teamwork.
Students who sign up are placed on teams of three. Each student must read at least four of the ten required books . Teams are asked questions about the books and must answer with the correct titles and authors during the competition.
The top two teams from each elementary school will compete in the District competition. This year's District Battle of the Books competition will be held at Parkside Elementary on Wednesday, March 11th. There will be three preliminary rounds in various classrooms beginning at 2:45. The three teams with the highest point total will advance to the finals. Finals will be held in the gym after the preliminary rounds have been completed and scores tallied.
