Jordan Werner, PE teacher at Riverside Elementary School, was recently given the BIGGIE Award from the KidZone Community Foundation for promoting physical activity for children in our community. Riverside’s PE teacher, Jordan Werner, embodies what it means to truly support and promote physical activity with children. Jordan is a devoted and energetic instructor. Students look forward to his class and leave with a wealth of knowledge that extends far beyond the gym doors. Besides teaching rules of games and working on motor skills, Jordan also incorporates health and social skills.
Jordan has organized and implemented many additional activities here at Riverside. He organized Riverside’s participation in the Healthy School Program National Research Project. Through his guidance, Riverside also takes part in the National Walk and Bike to School Day, JAM world record setting, and Cup Speed Stacking.
Jordan has also received numerous grants that have allowed him to purchase 35 aerobic step platforms, as well as fund the Presidential Youth Fitness Program, which is a fitness assessment and reporting program.
As if that does not keep him busy enough, Jordan also finds time to coach various sports. He coaches football at SMS, track and field at GPHS, and is a volunteer volleyball coach for Boys and Girls Club. Both staff and students are very lucky to have Jordan Werner as a physical education teacher at Riverside, and the entire community of Grants Pass benefits from his dedication to promoting fitness for all!
