
Grants Pass High School will play host to the SouthWest Conference Track and Field Championships Thursday, May 15th and Saturday, May 17th. Live Results will be posted here during the course of the meet.
Athletes from Crater, North Medford, South Medford, Grants Pass, Roseburg, Sheldon, South Eugene, and Thurston high schools will compete for the opportunity to compete in the OSAA State Track and Field Meet. The top two athletes in each event will automatically qualify for the state meet to be held at Legendary Hayward Field May 22nd, 23rd, and 24th.
Spectators will be treated to some of the top performers in the state at the SWC District Meet. State Champion Mitch Horning will be attempting to make a return trip to the state meet to defend his titles in the 100m and 200m. Mitch is also a part of Sheldon’s 4x100m relay team that owns a state best time of 41.41 seconds, and the 4x400m relay time that currently leads the state at 3:22.81. Grants Pass’ Zac Hannan will look to return to the state meet and improve on his 4th place finish in the 300m Hurdles. Also from Grants Pass, Drake Brennan hopes to return to the state meet and defend his title in the Discus. Drake currently ranks second in the state with a throw of 171 feet.
On the girl’s side of the meet, North Medford’s Halley Folsom will attempt a return trip to the state meet to defend her state title in the 300m hurdles. Halley is the current state leader in the 300m hurdles with a time of 44.44. A contingent of throwers from the SWC will look to leave their mark on the state meet. Ana Richardson (South Eugene), Kristina Clark (Grants Pass), and Sara Miles (South Medford) all rank in the top 10 in shot put. Ana Richardson (South Eugene), Kristina Clark (Grants Pass), and Kendell Erb (North Medford) rank in the top 10 for the Discus. Gabrielle Kearney (Roseburg) will be joined by fellow top 10 javelin throwers Amira Johnson (Thurston), Sarah Maffett (Grants Pass), and Kristina Clark (Grants Pass) in competition for spots at the state meet. Gabrielle Kearney is currently leading the nation in the Javelin with a throw of 166 feet. Joanna Galli and Teiryn Brennan, both Grants Pass athletes, are currently ranked 3rd and 9th, respectively, in the pole vault.
The gates will open for spectators at 12:00 on Thursday and 11:30 on Saturday. The cost is $6 for adults and $4 for students per day. Two day passes will be available at a cost of $10 for adults and $6 for students.
